Community Commission on Truth and Transparency in Texas Hydrogen Development

December 6-7, 2024

Project Manager Yoorie Chang testified on the importance of good union jobs in the just transition at the Community Commission on Truth and Transparency in Texas Hydrogen Development, a two-day summit hosted by the Texas Climate Jobs Project (TCJP) examining the future of clean hydrogen development in Texas. As Texas positions itself at the forefront of the hydrogen economy, the event brought together key stakeholders to ensure that workers’ rights, community interests, and environmental concerns are central to the development process.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Department of Energy’s Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs Program has positioned Texas to receive up to $1.2 billion in federal funding through the HyVelocity initiative. This investment is expected to create 45,000 construction, operations, and maintenance jobs across Texas. As major corporations including ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Shell prepare to shape this emerging industry, it’s crucial that worker and community voices help guide this transition.
